B. THAT the Director of Legal Services be instructed to bring forward the appropriate amendments to the Street Name By-law.
CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS
The City Manager RECOMMENDS approval of A and B.
COUNCIL POLICY
Council uses the Street Name By-Law, No. 4954, to name and regulate public roads in the City of Vancouver. The Street Naming Committee, a staff team, is chaired by the City Clerk, and comprised of the Archivist, City Surveyor, representatives of the Planning, Permits & Licensing, and Fire & Rescue Services Departments. The Committee is responsible for the management of a consistent, integrated and duplication-free street name system.
PURPOSE
This report seeks Council approval for naming a new public street as Kinghorne Mews.
DISCUSSION
The Street Naming Committee received a request from Concord Pacific to name a new city street located in Area 1 of Concord Pacific Place (Lots 264 and 265) with access from Granville Street (see attached Appendix A).
The Street Naming Committee had suggested several names for streets in Concord Pacific's new neighbourhood in commemoration of the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. In keeping with the same theme, the Committee proposed a choice of Clarence Close and Kinghorne Mews to Concord Pacific. Both names had significance in the life of The Queen Mother. Concord Pacific preferred Kinghorne Mews.
CONCLUSION
The Street Naming Committee recommends Council approve the name Kinghorne Mews for the new public street.
