COUNCIL POLICY
There is no applicable Council policy.
PURPOSEThe purpose of this report is to obtain Council authorization to demolish the vacant house at 2136 East 41st Avenue and the house at 2156 East 41st Avenue, upon vacant possession.
BACKGROUND
The two homes on East 41st Avenue were acquired by the City in the 1960's for the future widening of 41st Avenue (see Appendix A). Following the dedication of the North 17 feet of each lot for road, the homes were leased back to the existing owners.
On January 18, 1983, Council approved the recommendation that the two City-owned properties at 2136 and 2156 East 41st Avenue be sold when the existing tenants vacate the premises.
CURRENT SITUATION
The house at 2136 East 41st Avenue is now vacant. Because it is located on the street allowance, it has to be demolished before the property can be sold. The house is not on the Heritage Registry and the cost of the demolition is approximately $15,000.
The house at 2156 East 41st Avenue is also located on the road allowance and the Manager of Real Estate Services is recommending that it be demolished and released for sale when the tenant vacates the premises.
