Local Improvement Reballots from June 22, 1999, Court of Revision

 

RECOMMENDATION

POLICY

Policies governing the Local Improvement Process are set out in the Vancouver Charter and the Local Improvement Procedure By-Law. The projects dealt with in this report have gone through the legal requirements in the process, but Council has requested additional information on project support/opposition through the reballot before giving final approval.

PURPOSE

At the June 22, 1999, Court of Revision, Council instructed staff to reballot five local improvement petition projects. Two projects are still outstanding and will be reported to Council at a future date. The results of three projects are as follows:

Court 590, Item 34 Lane Paving in the Lane east of Trafalgar St. from 43rd Avenue to 45th Avenue

Recommendation: Project not be approved

Number of owners 23
Required 2/3 majority 16

+ Two owners that did not respond signed the original Petition, the remaining owner could not be contacted.

Based on the ballot results, there is insufficient support for this project to proceed.

Court 590, Item 36 Lane Paving in the lane south of 10th Avenue from the lane east of Waterloo Street to Blenheim Street

Recommendation: Project be approved

Number of owners 11
Required 2/3 majority 8

+ Two owners that did not respond signed the original Petition, the remaining 3 owners could not be contacted by phone.

Based on the ballot results and that two of the owners signed the original Petition form, there is sufficient support for this project to proceed.

Court 590, Item 42 Speed humps in the lane south of 35th Avenue from Maple Street to Cypress Street

Recommendation: Project not be approved

Number of owners 26
Required 2/3 majority 18

+ The remaining 4 owners that did not respond and could not be contacted by phone to determine their position.

Based on the ballot results, there is not sufficient support for this project to proceed.
