SUBJECT:	Councillor Nancy A. Chiavario: Attendance at Aboriginal Governance in Urban Settings Conference in Winnipeg November 3-6, 1998

RECOMMENDATION

THAT Council grant leave of absence for Councillor Chiavario to attend the Aboriginal Governance in Urban Settings Conference in Winnipeg, November 3-6, 1998;

FURTHER THAT Council authorize the City to pay Councillor Chiavario’s per diem during her stay in Winnipeg for the Conference, at a cost of $200.

CITY MANAGER’S COMMENTS

The City Manager RECOMMENDS approval of the foregoing.

POLICY

Council’s travel policy, approved July 31, 1992, requires Council approval for travel within North America.

PURPOSE

As Chair of the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee, Councillor Chiavario is requesting leave of absence to attend the Aboriginal Governance in Urban Settings Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba, November 3-6, 1998. She is also requesting that Council authorize the City to pay her per diem during her stay in Winnipeg.

DISCUSSION

The Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee is paying for Councillor Chiavario’s air fare and accommodation.

The per diem is $50.00 per day for four days, for a total cost of $200.

Funds are available in Council’s travel account.
