UNFINISHED BUSINESS

1. Private Property Tree By-law On July 11, 1996, the Standing Committee on Planning & Environment heard speakers on the following reports: - June 13, 1996 Policy Report entitled Options for an Improved Private Property Tree By-law Protecting Significant Trees; - June 13, 1996 Policy Report entitled Amendment of the Private Property Tree By-law to Protect Significant Trees. To better ascertain public opinion on this subject, staff were instructed to commission a professional independent polling company to carry out a telephone survey of Vancouver homeowners regarding the proposed amendments to the by-law, and to report the results back to Council on or before August 1, 1996. The General Manager of Community Services advises the poll is underway. Council will receive a report on the results as soon as possible. Based on Council's decision on July 30th, the relevant by-law will be submitted for adoption at the Council meeting following the appropriate Standing Committee meeting on August 1st. (i) Policy Report dated July 30, 1996, entitled 'Report Back on the Scientific Telephone Survey Concerning the Proposed Option 3 Amendments to the Private Property Tree By-law'. 2. Rezoning of 7400 Oak Street (Oakherst) Council, on July 23, 1996, concluded the Public Hearing for the above rezoning application. However, Council deferred its decision on the application to today's meeting and instructed staff to undertake additional economic analysis of the park and heritage house issues. Memo dated July 29, 1996, from the Manager of Real Estate Services refers. 3. Revised 1996 Capital Grant Allocation On July 25, 1996, the City Services & Budgets Standing Committee considered a May 25, 1996 Administrative Report recommending approval of ten Capital Grants. After hearing presentations from representatives of several organizations, the Committee RECOMMENDED THAT a capital grant of $10,000 be allocated from existing 1996 Capital Grant funds to the Chinese Cultural Centre, and that staff be directed to re-adjust the Capital Grant allocations accordingly and report back.
