   SUBJECT:       Funding for Chaldecott Water Park


   RECOMMENDATION

        THAT Council approve the receipt of funds from the Dunbar Community
        Association and  its Chaldecott  Water Playground Committee  in the
        amount of  $110,866.83 for the construction of the Chaldecott Water
        Park.


   COUNCIL POLICY

   All amendment's  to the  Capital  Budget in  excess of  $50,000 must  be
   approved by Council.


   PURPOSE

   Funds  beyond the 1993 capital allocation for Chaldecott Park are needed
   to  construct a  recirculating water park  and can be  provided from the
   Dunbar Community Association.


   BACKGROUND

   The Dunbar community has initiated a  project for the construction of  a
   water park with  fundraising of $110,866.83, including a BC  21 grant of
   $37,300, to supplement Park Board funding.


   DISCUSSION

   Funding  received  for  this  project  will  allow  the  construction of
   Vancouver's first recirculating water  park.  The annual operating  cost
   is estimated at $8,100.00 (1995 dollars).


   CONCLUSION

   Chaldecott Water  Park will be  a popular  family facility  that can  be
   constructed with the provision of community raised funds.
