File No. 1254 TO: Vancouver City Council FROM: City Clerk SUBJECT: Councillor Price: Attendance at Making Cities Livable Conference in Freiburg-im-Breisgau, Germany RECOMMENDATION THAT Council authorize Councillor Price's attendance at the Making Cities Livable Conference in Freiburg-im-Breisgau, Germany, at a cost of $1,781 (Cdn). CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS The City Manager RECOMMENDS approval of the foregoing. COUNCIL POLICY Council's Travel Policy, approved July 31, 1992, requires Council approval for travel outside North America. PURPOSE This report requests Council approval for Councillor Gordon Price to attend the 17th International Conference on Making Cities Livable in Freiburg-im-Breisgau, Germany, September 5-9, 1995. DISCUSSION Councillor Price will be on vacation in Europe during the month of September this year. He would like to take advantage of the opportunity this presents to participate in the IMCL Conference which has a special focus on New Urban Neighbourhoods (see information attached as Appendix A). His European travel base will be Paris; therefore, he will incur the cost of travel by train from Paris to Freiburg-im-Breisgau. The topic of the Conference would be beneficial to the Councillor in his role as Chair of Council's Standing Committee on Planning and Environment. The cost of attendance at the Conference is estimated at $1,781, broken down as follows: Registration $ 475.00 (before August 1, 1995) Accommodation 760.00 ($152.00 x 5) Per Diem 390.00 (6 days x $65.00) Train Trips 156.00 (x 2 - second class) $1,781.00 The funds are available in Council's Travel Account. * * * * *
