A one-page description of the project is attached for information. CITY CLERK TT:li Att. INTERACTIVE CABLE CLASSROOM URL:http/www2.excite.sfu.ca/pgm/ EXCITE is working with students and teachers at Vancouver's Point Grey Mini School to develop new models for learning on the Internet through highspeed network connections. Using the Rogers Cablelink Schools infrastructure, grade eight students share their science projects, and grade 11 students publish an interactive examination of Vancouver during the Great Depression. The fast cablelink has facilitated regular videoconferencing between Point Grey Mini students and EXCITE, enabling collaboration in the development of the Science Clubhouse Network, a live Internet science show hosted by the students with the participation of online science experts. Currently EXCITE, Point Grey Mini School, Rogers Communications, and the City of Vancouver are collaborating to produce an online, interactive, multimedia exploration of Vancouver in the future. This ambitious project will use data from the Vancouver Planning Department, media resources from Rogers, student research and performances, and the multimedia wizardry of EXCITE to examine Vancouver's projected growth and to invite community participation in debates about city planning. The Interactive Cable Classroom projects are financed by the Canadian Cable Labs Fund.
