GREATER VANCOUVER REGIONAL DISTRICT Office of the Chairperson 4330 Kingsway Burnaby, B.C. V5H 4G8 May 14, 1997 His Worship Mayor Philip Owen and Members of Council City of Vancouver 453 West 12th Avenue Vancouver, B.C. V5Y 1V4 Dear Mayor Owen and Members of Council: Re: GVRD Intergovernmental Advisory Committee On May 2, 1997, the GVRD Board of Directors approved formation of an Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) as outlined in the enclosed report, Establishment of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee for Greater Vancouver, April 16, 1997 (on file in City Clerk's Office). The purpose of the IAC, which is required by the Municipal Act, is to advise the GVRD Board on the development and implementation of the Livable Region Strategic Plan. While the legislation allows each municipalitiy to determine who will be its representative, it is the GVRD Board's view that the IAC will be most effective if municipalities take a consistent approach and appoint a senior staff member. I would therefore like to request that you appoint your Regional Administrative Advisory Committee representative(*) to this committee. Finalizing agreement on the Livable Region Strategic Plan by all 20 municipalities, the GVRD Board and the Province in 1996 was a substantial achievement. We now face the challenge of coordinating implementation of this vision for Greater Vancouver's future and ensuring the high quality environment and livable communities that we all value. The Intergovernmental Advisory Committee can help to ensure we are all working together, and I look forward to the results of the discussions. If you require further information on the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee, please contact Ken Cameron, Manager, Strategic Planning at 432-6379 Yours truly, (sgd) George Puil Chair, Board of Directors (*) Note from Clerk: The City's representative on the Regional Administrative Advisory Committee is Ken Dobell, City Manager. The back-up is Judy Rogers, Deputy City Manager.
