BACKGROUND
The FCM and UBCM have invoiced the City for the 1997-1998 membership fees, which are now due.
(a) FEDERATION OF CANADIAN MUNICIPALITIES
1997-1998 Membership Fee - $45,297.02
This represents no change from the previous four years.
(b) UNION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA MUNICIPALITIES
1997 Membership Fee - $33,870.31
This represents an increase of $590.03 (1.8%) over the previous year, resulting from the estimated population growth of
the City.
UBCM dues are calculated using the population estimates (for grant purposes) of BC STATS, a division of the Ministry of
Finance and Corporate Relations.
The 1997 population estimate is 522,605 (as compared to 510,330 in 1996). The fees paid over the last few years,
compared with this year, are as follows:
1993 $28,709.52
1994 $28,977.66
1995 $31,297.18
1996 $33,272.28
1997 $33,870.31.
No GST applies to these membership fees.
