ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT
Dated : November 26,1996
TO: Vancouver City Council
FROM: Director of Finance
SUBJECT: 1996 Taxation Exemption By-Law - Seniors Housing
RECOMMENDATION
THAT Council approve an amendment to Bylaw No. 7524 authorizing the
extension of a property tax exemption to the Baptist Housing
Society of B.C. for 1996.
GENERAL MANAGER COMMENTS
The General Manager of Corporate Services RECOMMENDS approval of
the foregoing.
DISCUSSION
On February 27, 1996, Council approved By-law No. 7524 providing an
exemption for the ' grandfathered ' senior's housing projects for 1996.
On June 26, 1996, Council approved an amendment to add one additional
property omitted from the bylaw.
This report requests the addition of another property omitted from the
bylaw for which the tax exemption should apply. Legal Services has been
asked to prepare and submit a by-law that will amend Council's original
approval by adding this property to the bylaw.
The Baptist Housing Society of B.C. is operating a facility that
includes Senior's Housing and Community Care. As a result of this mixed
use it was erroneously entered as fully taxable on the 1996 Assessment
roll. This by-law will allow the property to be assessed as partially
exempt as originally intended.
