   SUBJECT:  Minor Amendments to the Vancouver Electrical By-law #5563


   RECOMMENDATION

        A.   THAT Council approve in principle the proposed amendment to
             the Vancouver Electrical By-law as summarized in the
             Discussion below; and

        B.   THAT Council instruct the Director of Legal Services to bring
             forward the appropriate by-law amendment.


   GENERAL MANAGER'S COMMENTS

        The General Manager of Community Services RECOMMENDS approval of A
        and B.


   PURPOSE

   The purpose of this report is to seek Council's approval of an amendment
   to Section 7.1 of the Vancouver Electrical By-law in order to adopt the
   17th Edition of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I; CSA Standard
   C22.1-1994.  The Electrical Safety Act of the Province of British
   Columbia has already adopted the 17th Edition of the Canadian Electrical
   Code, Part I.


   DISCUSSION

   This amendment is sought to bring the Electrical By-law up-to-date.  It
   is proposed to amend Section 7.1 to read as follows:

        "7.1 The Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, 17th Edition, Safety
             Standard for Electrical Installations, Canadian Standards
             Association Standard C22.1-1994, subject to any variations
             adopted pursuant to the Electrical Safety Act, is adopted and
             made part of this By-law."
