   MEMO TO:      Members of Council

   FROM:         Mayor Philip Owen

   RE:           UBCM "WELCOME RECEPTION"



   The City  of  Vancouver has  been  asked  by the  Union  of  B.C.
   Municipalities  to  host the  "Welcome  Reception"  for the  UBCM
   Annual Convention which this year will  be held in our city.  The
   amount requested is $10,000 which represents less than 50% of the
   actual cost.   It is traditional for the Host  City to contribute
   to this particular  event, and I  WOULD RECOMMEND,  as we did  in
   1993, THAT:

        The Vancouver  City Council  approve a hospitality  grant of
        $10,000  toward  the Welcome  Reception  for  the 1995  UBCM
        Convention, source of funds to be the Contingency Reserve.
