COUNCIL POLICY
Council uses the Street Name By-Law, No. 4054, to name and regulate public roads in the City of Vancouver. The Street Naming Committee, a staff team, is chaired by the City Clerk, and comprised of the Archivist, City Surveyor, representatives of the Planning, Permits & Licensing, and Fire & Rescue Services Departments. The Committee is responsible for the management of a consistent, integrated and duplication-free street name system.
PURPOSE
This report seeks Council approval for naming the following new public streets: extension of Pacific Boulevard and extension of Nelson Street.
DISCUSSION
On September 14, 2004, Council approved the naming of Cooperage Way and extension of Smithe Street. On the subdivision plan dedicating the lands for Cooperage Way and extension of Smithe Street, additional land is being dedicated that is fundamentally a widening (extension) of Pacific Boulevard and a widening (extension) of Nelson Street (see Appendices A and B).
The Street Naming Committee proposes naming the additional widenings as extensions of Pacific Boulevard and Nelson Street.
CONCLUSION
The Street Naming Committee recommends Council approve the names extension of Pacific Boulevard and extension of Nelson Street.
