"Vancouver's New Neighbourhoods: Achievements in Planning and Urban Design"
There are several reasons for this publication. It has been compiled to record the multiplicity of projects that make up Vancouver's new neighbourhoods, as well as the attention to detail that has gone into shaping the human-scale experience in the city. It also serves to honour those working in the multiple professions related to the process of building a liveable city by highlighting some of their exceptional achievements over the past decade and a half. Finally, it has a strong educational component, serving to inform the reader of the approach to urban planning in Vancouver. Although published only a few months ago, the booklet has been circulated locally and throughout North America with very positive response.
The publication was produced in 2004. It was conceived and produced by Planning Department staff and the text was written by Mr. Lance Berelowitz of Urban Forum Associates, acting as a consultant for the department. Its publication and all of its costs have been covered entirely through the generosity of private donors. Donors agreed to support the project after it was drafted and had no input into its contents. It is the companion booklet to "Vancouver's Urban Design: A Decade of Achievements" (2000) also published by the City.
Both booklets are available at:
