SUBJECT:

JOHN JENKINS AWARD Presented to Arkady Tsisserev

The General Manager of Community Services recommends that this report be received for Council's INFORMATION.

There is no applicable Council Policy.

This report updates Council on the award recently received by Arkady Tsisserev, Chief Electrical Inspector.

Ark Tsisserev, P. Eng., M. Eng., Manager of the Electrical Inspection Branch and Chief Electrical Inspector has received the 2004 John Jenkins award from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) at a special ceremony during its annual conference in Charlevoix Quebec.

The award is CSA's most prestigious honour, bestowed upon Ark for his distinguished service in development, advancement, and application of voluntary standards. To quote CSA's President of Standards, Pat Keindel, "Ark tirelessly shares his knowledge, expertise and passion for the pursuit of excellence in the development ...............of electrical standards". Ark has been involved with standards development since 1985, continuing that involvement upon joining the City of Vancouver in 1993. He is currently Chair of the Part 1 Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code (the City adopts this national standard by by-law and enforces its safety provisions within its jurisdiction). Ark also represents Canada on the International Electrotechnical Committee on electrical installations in buildings as well as various other national and local technical committees.

Ark's hard work and passion for excellence has made Vancouver a recognized leader in the development and enforcement of electrical safety standards. We are indeed privileged to have Ark working for us here at the City.
