Authority to Attend National Forum on Economic Growth of Big Cities in Canada
RECOMMENDATION
A. That Council authorize payment for Councillor Jim Green to attend the National Forum on the Economic Growth of Big Cities in Canada to be held in Montreal on June 9 - 13, 2004; funding estimated at $3,500 is available in the Council travel budget in the 2004 Operating Budget.
B. That Council authorize a Leave of Absence for Civic Business for Councillor Green for Council and Standing Committee meetings held on June 8 and 10, 2004.
CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS
The City Manager submits the recommendation for Council's CONSIDERATION.
COUNCIL POLICY
The City's Business Travel Policy requires Council approval for travel by Councillors outside of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
PURPOSE
This report requests approval for Councillor Green to attend the National Forum on the Economic Growth of Big Cities.
DISCUSSION
The Communauté Métropolitaine de Montréal is hosting the National Forum of the Economic Growth of Big Cities in Canada in June 2004. The forum will be attended by Mayors and numerous Councillors from approximately 22 of Canada's largest cities. At the forum the attendees will participate in working sessions that will focus on the competitiveness and attractiveness of big cities and develop an action plan to achieve economic growth in these cities.
An invitation was extended to Councillor Green as he is the Council Liaison to the Vancouver Economic Development Commission.

The estimated costs to be funded from the 2004 Operating Budget are as follows:
