SUBJECT:
Establishment of City Owned Lot at 9000 Hudson Street for Road Purposes
RECOMMENDATION
THAT Council approve the establishment of the City-owned property legally described as PID: 015-986-098 Lot 1 (Reference Plan 1497) Block M (Reference Plan 1348) District Lot 318 Group 1 New Westminster District, known as 9000 Hudson Street (the "Property").
GENERAL MANAGER'S COMMENTS
The General Manager of Corporate Services RECOMMENDS approval of the foregoing.
COUNCIL POLICY
The authority for establishing streets and lanes is set out in Section 291 of the Vancouver Charter.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this report is to request Council approval to establish the City-owned property at 9000 Hudson Street for road purposes (Appendix A).
BACKGROUND
In 1919 Eburne Saw Mills Limited transferred the Property to the City of Vancouver. The Property has been held as a Capital Asset since that time and has been reserved for road purposes. The site was leased to Canadian Forest Products Ltd from 1941 to December 31, 2002. Upon the expiry of the lease, Canfor undertook the satisfactory remediation of the site. The strip of land to the northwest of the Property was dedicated as road in 1914 by Plan 4651.
PRESENT SITUATION
The large parcel of land to the south of the City-owned lot, down to the Fraser River is now being redeveloped. It is therefore necessary to develop a road to permit appropriate access to this site. There is an existing Statutory Right of Way in favour of British Columbia Hydro & Power Authority registered on the title of the property.
CONCLUSION
The Director of Real Estate Services is of the opinion that this property should be established for road purposes.
