SUBJECT: Authority to Travel to Jasper, Alberta - October 16-19, 2003
RECOMMENDATION
THAT Council authorize payment for Councillor Peter Ladner to travel to Jasper, Alberta, to attend a conference entitled "Sustainability: Making Genuine Progress".
CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS
The City Manager submits the foregoing for Council's CONSIDERATION.
COUNCIL POLICY
Current City Business Travel Policy, approved July 31, 1992, requires Council's approval for travel within North America.
PURPOSE
This report requests approval for Councillor Ladner to attend this conference on sustainability hosted by the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics.
DISCUSSION
This conference focuses on research and best practices in designing and developing ecologically sustainable economies for businesses, individuals, communities and governments. Its sponsers include Environment Canada and the Alberta Ministry of Sustainable Resource Development.
The content of the sessions, including topics such as Embedding Sustainability in Civic Governments, will assist Council in making decisions that are aligned with the City's position and principles of `a sustainable city'.
