SUBJECT: Authority for Councillor Green to Travel to Toronto, April 9 - 12, 2003
RECOMMENDATION
THAT Council authorize payment for Councillor Jim Green to travel to Toronto to attend the Canadian Housing & Renewal Association Conference (CHRA) on April 9th - 12th, 2003.
CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS
The City Manager submits the recommendation for Council's CONSIDERATION.
COUNCIL POLICY
Current City Business Travel Policy, approved July 31, 1992, requires Council's approval for travel within North America.
PURPOSE
This report is to obtain Council approval for Councillor Green to travel to Toronto attend the CHRA Conference, Communities in Action: The Housing Agenda and the National Affordable Housing Forum which is cosponsored by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. This conference and forum will be an opportunity to address several important affordable housing issues.
DISCUSSION
Councillor Green is seeking approval to the CHRA Conference in order to provide key input into emerging housing issues such as the expiry of Federal Operating Agreements. These issues will have an effect on cooperatives and non-profit housing
providers throughout the city and region. The Greater Vancouver Housing Corporation has indicated that they believe Councillor Green's extensive background in housing will be valuable in addressing these issues.
