SUBJECT: Report Reference - Recommendations from Committee

At the March 5, 2002 Council Meeting, Council approved a motion stating that Councillors meet informally with the families of the Missing Women to listen, express their sympathy, and achieve some strategies to prevent women from entering the sex trade and also help find ways for women to exit the sex trade should they wish to.

Consultation began in April, 2002 between Cllr. Lynne Kennedy, members of the Missing Women's families, and various organizations currently involved with assisting women in the sex trade.

For some members of the Committee, the consultations were painful remembrances, given the horrific background surrounding the disappearance of their family members. Some expressed their concerns and opinions privately, not wishing to be in the public eye. Some gave us their views by e-mail or letter. However, the over-riding hope of all was that something positive would result from the consultations, and that the actions recommended would go a long way towards a better future.

The final report and recommendations are attached for consideration at the November 26, 2002 Council meeting. Some members of the families may be present on that date, and may wish to speak to the Report.
