CITY OF VANCOUVER
CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
M E M O R A N D U M
DATE: May 6, 2002 FILE: 2151
TO: Vancouver City Council
FROM: Denise Salmon, Meeting Coordinator
SUBJECT: Reconsideration of Community Services Grants Applications
Women Against Violence Against Women
At the May 2, 2002, Standing Committee on City Services and Budgets meeting, Council heard from speakers on the Administrative Report dated April 18, 2002, entitled "Reconsideration of Community Services Grants Applications" and took action on Recommendation A as follows (the recommendation of the Committee was approved by Council immediately following the Planning and Environment Committee meeting on May 2, 2002):
THAT Council approve a grant of $27,000 to Women Against Violence Against Women, with the following condition:
"The city grant is to partially fund an aboriginal outreach position working at least 20 hours per week; and that quarterly disbursements are subject to the receipt of quarterly reports, to the satisfaction of the Director of Social Planning."
The source of funds is the allocation from the Community Services Grants budget, originally recommended but not approved, for this organization.
A delegation for Women Against Violence Against Women inadvertently did not have the opportunity to speak. Council therefore agreed to hear from the WAVAW delegation at a future meeting.
Accordingly, the relevant material is attached and refers. Council may wish to put forward an additional recommendation, after hearing the delegation. Approval of grant recommendations requires eight affirmative votes.
Please note: Because no action was taken on items B through G, they are resubmitted
as Unfinished Business (see UB-1 attached).
