VANCOUVER CIVIC THEATRES BOARD

December 13, 2001

RECOMMENDATION

1. Amendment to Vancouver Civic Theatres Board By-law No. 3941 (File 113/RTS 2470)

At its meeting on December 13, 2001, the Vancouver Civic Theatres Board reviewed the following section of the Vancouver Civic Theatres Board (VCTB) By-law No. 3941:

2.A. The Board shall be composed of seven members appointed by the Council as follows:

(1) One member who shall be a member of City Council (hereinafter referred to as "the official member");

(2) Six other members (hereinafter referred to as the "appointed members") each of whom shall:

(i) (a) be an elector of the Greater Vancouver Regional District, or

(b) have been a resident of the Greater Vancouver Regional District for not less than six consecutive months immediately preceding the appointment;

(ii) not be a member of the Council of the City;

(iii) not be an employee of the City.

Rae Ackerman, Director of Civic Theatres, proposed that a further condition be added to the above section of the VCTB By-law to state that the appointed member not be a Licensee of Civic Theatres nor an employee or board member of a Licensee.

Following discussion, the Board

RECOMMENDED

THAT the Director of Legal Services be instructed to bring forward the necessary by-law amendment to Section 2.A.(2) of the Vancouver Civic Theatres Board By-law No. 3941, by adding a further condition, as follows:

(iv) not be a Licensee or other user of any Civic Theatre, or an officer, director or employee of any such licensee or other user.
