REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
July 24, 2001
A Regular Meeting of the Council of the City of Vancouver was held on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., in the Council Chamber, Third Floor, City Hall.

PRAYER
The proceedings in the Council Chamber were opened with a prayer read by the Director of Meeting and Election Services.
REQUEST TO SPEAK
Present in the Council Chamber were a number of people concerned about the lack of progress on the settlement of the transit strike, and who wished to speak. The Mayor called for order but they continued to disrupt the meeting.

MOVED by Councillor Puil
SECONDED by Councillor KennedyTHAT Council will go into a meeting later this day which is closed to the public, pursuant to Section 165.2 of the Vancouver Charter, to discuss matters related to paragraph:
(e) the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the Council considers that disclosure might reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the city.
CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
Due to the continued disruption, the Mayor announced the Council meeting will resume in the Mayor's Office.
The Council members left the Council Chamber at 2:15 p.m., and resumed the meeting at 2:20 p.m., in the Mayor's Office, with all members present, except for Councillors Bass and Louis.
PRESENTATIONS
Community Spirit Awards - Portrait V2K Millenium Project
· The Mayor presented Community Spirit Awards to the following sponsors of the Portrait V2K Millenium project:
Dennis Skulsky, President and Publisher, Vancouver Sun
Wynne Powell, President and CEO, London Drugs
Allen Lai, President, Henderson Development Canada
Cindy Lee, President, T&T SupermarketCouncillor Clarke, Chair of the Millenium Project, described Portrait V2K project and the contributions of each sponsor.
Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators award to City of Vancouver
· Warren Wishart presented a Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators award to the City of Vancouver. The City received an Honourable Mention in the Education Category for the Public Process Guide, a Public Involvement Review initiative.
Mr. Wishart congratulated the following City staff responsible for receiving award: Jacquie Forbes-Roberts, General Manager of Community Services; Michael White, Planner; Nancy Largent, PIR Coordinator; and acknowledged the consultant, Susan Abs.

SECONDED by Councillor KennedyTHAT the Regular Council meeting of July 24 will recess and reconvene on Thursday, July 26 to complete the remainder of the Council Agenda.
