RECOMMENDATION

GENERAL MANAGER'S COMMENTS

COUNCIL POLICY

Article 1A.7.5.1 of the Building By-law prohibits the Chief Building Official from granting more than one extension to a Building Permit. Any further extensions can only be approved by Council.

DISCUSSION

Building Permit No. BU414173 was issued January 26, 2000 for the construction of an 18-storey mixed-use hotel/residential tower containing 151 hotel rooms and 15 dwelling units at 1050 Smithe Street.

The permit was previously extended and will expire on January 26, 2001.

A recent inspection determined that the existing parking lot is well maintained.

There has been no change to the zoning for the property (Downtown District). Related Development Permit No. DE400696 was issued October 17, 1996 and is valid as long as this Building Permit is active. The Planning Department has no objection to this extension.
