A Regular Meeting of the Standing Committee of Council on Transportation and Traffic was held on December 12, 2000, at 9:30 a.m., in Committee Room No. 1, Third Floor, City Hall.

ADOPTION OF MINUTES
The Minutes of the Standing Committee on Transportation and Traffic meeting of September 26, 2000, were adopted.
RECOMMENDATION
1. 3300 Adanac Street - Mid-block Bulges and Crosswalk File: 5702
The Committee had before it an Administrative Report, dated September 12, 2000, in which the General Manager of Engineering Services recommended that Council grant approval and funding for mid-block bulges and a crosswalk in the 3300 block of Adanac Street.
The following motion by Councillor McCormick was put and carried. The Committee, therefore,
RECOMMENDED
A. THAT bulges be installed mid-block in the 3300 block of Adanac Street and that a crosswalk be marked and signed at this location, at a cost of $16,000. Funding to be provided from Streets Basic Capital Unappropriated Account No. 30000326 - Local Area Traffic Plans and Other Improvements.
B. THAT commencing in 2001, the Traffic Operations Maintenance Budget be increased by $100, without offset.

2. Review of Recent TransLink Studies File: 5559
The Committee had before it an Administrative Report, dated November 28, 2000, in which the General Manager of Engineering Services provides a brief description and summary of findings arising from recent TransLink Studies.
Don Klimchuk, Transportation Monitoring Engineer, with the aid of an overhead projector and hand-outs (on file), presented an overview of the report and gave an outline of the 1999 Lower Mainland Truck Freight Study. Mr. Klimchuk, along with Dave Rudberg, General Manager, Engineering Services and Ian Adam, Assistant City Engineer, responded to questions from the Committee regarding the following:
· demographics targeted in these studies.
· details of how each mode of transportation is being studied.
· movement of goods by large trucks.
· potential for alternate transportation modes.
· the affects that on-line, current, traffic information will have upon the economy.
· the Citys ability to obtain and distribute traffic information in order to maintain control of road systems and traffic.The following motion by Councillor Puil was put and carried. The Committee, therefore,
RECOMMENDED
THAT the Administrative Report from the General Manager of Engineering Services, on the Review of Recent TransLink Studies, dated November 28, 2000, be received for information.
