COUNCIL POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this report is to seek Council's approval to demolish the building at 701 Beach Avenue.

BACKGROUND

On April 10, 1997, City Council approved a report recommending:

"THAT the General Manager of Engineering Services make application to rezone Lot H from BCPED to CD-1, Comprehensive Development District, to allow for the development of a parking structure at a cost of approximately $6,000,000 to accommodate the relocation of the impound facility presently on the southeast corner of Granville and Pacific Streets."

CURRENT SITUATION

The building at 701 Beach Avenue is vacant and in poor condition. It is not on the Vancouver Heritage Registry. With the proposed redevelopment of the site for the vehicle impound facility it is recommended that it be demolished at an estimated cost of $20,000. Upon demolition of the building, the site will be used for surface parking until the redevelopment proceeds. The cost of demolition to be the PEF Demolition Account 9300-80090-531240 with the cost recoverable from the Budget of Future Civic projects developed on the site.
